Andrew Leis was named head coach of the Yale gymnastics team in the spring of 2022. He had initially been appointed interim head gymnastics coach in August of 2021 following the passing of legendary head coach Barbara Tonry.
Leis joined the Yale gymnastics staff prior to the 2020 season and made an instant impact on the program, helping the Bulldogs to a second-place finish at the Ivy Classic.
From Suffield, Conn., Leis graduated from UMass-Amherst in ’02 with a degree in sports management. He served four years on the men’s gymnastics team, being named team captain his senior year.
Leis began coaching in 2004. His goal-oriented mindset and deep love for the sport helped him develop National Champions for USAG Women’s Gymnastics as well as coach multiple gymnasts to full-ride scholarships to Division I schools such as Arizona, Iowa State, Maryland, Penn State and Towson.
Outside the gym, Leis has been the NBC Sports Research/Statistician for USA Gymnastics. He has served in this role for multiple Olympic Games as well as worked with televised events in Rio de Janeiro, London and Beijing assisting the broadcasting team with research and statistics.
